Description

No. 7 London Road is a Grade II listed split-level Tudorbethan cottage, built around 1870 and attributed to J A Hansom. The cottage has one storey with an attic and a basement visible on the southwest and northwest elevations. Its brick walls are accented with stone dressings and feature iron trellis mullioned windows, most of which have transoms. The tall, ornamented brick stacks add to its character.

The front elevation, which faces northeast, has three bays. The first bay on the left has a transomed two-light window both above and below, with an attic window and gable above. The second bay projects slightly and has a hipped roof, featuring a gabled canopy on sloping brackets over a doorway in the side wall. The front wall of this bay includes a three-light mullioned window above and below, with the ground floor window set slightly to the left. The side wall doorway has a Caernarfon shouldered arch and a well-crafted ledged door. The third bay features a full-height gable with a two-storey, three-sided bay window topped with a stone slate roof. This bay window has four-light transomed and mullioned windows on both the ground and first floors, and the gable has kneelers and a slit light at its apex, with a stack located at the rear.

The southeast side has a gable with a transomed three-light window on the first floor and a large rectangular bay window with a stone slate roof on the ground floor, which has four lights in front and a single light on each side. The gable is finished with stone kneelers and coping.

The southwest and northwest elevations maintain a similar architectural style. Inside, notable features include a good stone fireplace.
