Description

Camices Farm is a farmhouse and oast that dates from the 16th century, with later additions from the late 18th century and 20th century extensions. The building is constructed from stone and brick, with a combination of tile and slate roofing. It features a four-bay timber-framed house that has been partially clad, forming an L-shape with the attached oast. The house has 20th-century additions in the angle between the two structures.

The farmhouse is one storey with an attic, and has a deep base on the north side. The north elevation includes one gabled dormer and three windows. The roof is half-hipped at the west end. The central frame is exposed, with a mix of brick and some stone infill. There is a short brick section on the west side and a larger section of malmstone with brick quoins on the east side, while the base wall is primarily brick. The windows are casements, and there are two boarded doors. The east gable features exposed framing in the upper part, with malmstone walls and brick dressings, including quoins and chamfered surrounds around the windows. The south side has undergone alterations and includes 20th-century brickwork additions with flat roofs, which are one and two storeys high.

The oast is two storeys tall and almost square, built of malmstone ashlar with brick quoins. It has a very steep half-hipped slate roof. The lower extensions to the oast are made of corrugated iron. The west gable of the house, which is at a higher ground level, has light framing with brick infill, and the lower walls are constructed in English bond brickwork.
