Description
Chapel Cottage is a late 16th-century timber-frame cottage, largely encased in 18th-century brick and coursed stone, and altered in the 19th century, with a small 20th-century lean-to addition. The cottage is single storey with an attic, and originally comprised three bays and a smoke bay. The front elevation features a smoke bay with a stack to the right of centre. A 19th-century plank door is situated in a solid frame to the left of centre and right bay, accompanied by 19th-century two-light casement windows. The left bay reveals exposed timber framing and includes a 20th-century window. A 19th-century sloping brick pier supports the smoke bay. A 19th-century two-light, pent-roofed dormer is set into the roof above the two left bays. A large ridge stack is positioned above the smoke bay. The interior retains much exposed timber framing, and the smoke bay displays the remains of a smoke hood.
