Description
Mill House is a house that incorporates an older cottage, dating from the 17th century, with additions from the 18th century and mid-19th century. It features a timber frame with later masonry, incised render, and brick additions, including a colourwashed brick section. The roof is covered with old plain tiles.
The structure consists of a three-bay timber frame with a two-bay wing to the right made of brick and reused squared stone, which may have originally been a malt-house. This section is rendered, while a 19th-century two-bay block has been added to the left, which is two stories tall, in contrast to the rest of the building, which is one and a half stories. The building is situated on a slope from left to right, resulting in increasing plinths and cellars in the 19th-century part.
The 19th-century section features a two-panel door within a doorcase that has an open pediment added in the 20th century, along with a canted flat-roofed bay and large and small sash windows above. The earliest part of the house has a similar bay in the center, with a 9-pane sash window from the 18th century to the left and four 2-light casements to the right and above. The right side includes an 18th-century planked door beneath a tile-hung gable with a three-light casement, and there is an additional casement in the aided end bay. The 19th-century section has a hipped roof and a central stack, while the 17th-century bay has a ridge stack to the right and another at the right end.
