Description
20-24 Sheep Street is a range of cottages dating from the 16th century. The building is two storeys high and features six windows in total, all under a very steeply pitched tiled roof. There are three rebuilt chimneys along the roof ridge and overhanging eaves. The first floor jetties out and is constructed of close-studded timbers, except for the left bay, which has a square frame. The beam ends below are rounded and visible. The ground floor is made of brick, partly restored, and shows some square framing. The left bay is built out flush with the rest of the structure. There is a rendered plinth. The first floor has old metal casements with diamond leading, while the ground floor features a mix of original and restored casements, with much new leading. The doors are plain, made of thick wood and set in sturdy frames. This group of buildings also includes numbers 2 to 26 Sheep Street, numbers 24 and 25 The Square, and numbers 2A, 2, and 4 The Spain.
