Description

Dowlings is a house displaying a mixture of 17th, late 18th, and 20th-century construction. The central section features exposed, massive timber framing, brick-nogged and set upon a rubble stone base. The north side has walls of malmstone, incorporating a high plinth, whilst the south side has a 20th-century stone extension also with a high plinth. The tiled roof is half-hipped on the north side and includes a shafted stack. The front (north-west) elevation consists of three continuous sections, arranged as 2 windows, 2 windows, and then 1 window over two storeys. It contains casement windows, one upper window with a gablet, and a ground-floor rectangular bay with a hipped roof. A boarded door sits within a plain frame and is sheltered by a gable timber-framed porch. A 20th-century two-storey wing, with a hipped roof and brick walls, is located at the rear.
