Description

Scotland is a house dating from the early 16th century, originally a timber-framed hall featuring a smoke bay and a solar at the south end. A fireplace was added in the late 16th or early 17th century, and the house was reclad in the late 18th century. A rear wing was added in the 20th century. The walls are constructed of brickwork in English bond and Flemish bond, with blue headers, and there is a high plinth band above a flint base. The openings are cambered, and there is a thin band at the first floor level. Some flint walls have brick dressings, and there is a small exposure of the timber frame in the north-end outshot. The prominent hipped roof is covered with interlocking tiles from around 1970 and features gablets, extending to a lower eaves at the north end. The west front has two storeys with three windows, which are casements, and there is a plain doorway.
