Description

Whitedale is a country house dating from the 18th century, with an early 19th-century extension and minor additions from the late 19th century. The house features stucco walls; the older section has a parapet and cornice, while the later part has a stepped plinth, a first-floor band on the main front, and architraves around the window openings. The original section has a steep hipped slate roof, while the newer section has a low-pitched hipped slate roof with wide eaves supported by coupled carved brackets.

The older part presents a regular two-storey facade with five windows on the northwest elevation, where the upper centre window is blank, and the second and third bays on the ground floor have been replaced by a wide opening beneath a cambered arch. This opening contains two half-glazed doors flanked by side windows, all with sash windows in exposed frames. The northeast end elevation connects to the later block, which has a two-storey and attic facade with three windows, also featuring sash windows in reveals.

At the angle between the two blocks is a single-storey extension that culminates in a Greek Doric porch, which includes two pilasters, two fluted columns, a simplified entablature, and half-glazed double doors set within an architrave. The southeast elevation of the later block displays a wide symmetrical facade with a half-octagonal centerpiece, featuring two storeys and a window arrangement of 2.1.2. Minor buildings occupy the southwest angle, with one and two storeys, and beyond the earlier block, there is a single-storey service wing constructed of brick with a tiled roof.
