Description
The Corner is a small house dating from the 18th century, likely originating from the 16th century. It has a timber frame with brick infill and later encasing, rendered in the 19th century, and features an old plain tile roof. The building is irregular in shape, consisting of two storeys and three bays, with an outshot at the rear and a lean-to on the right side. The central entrance has a six-panel top-lit door beneath a flat hood supported by later posts. On the east side, there is an 18th-century 12-pane sash window in a segmental-headed opening. Above this, there are two additional 18th-century 12-pane sashes, along with a two-light casement window to the right of the door. The lean-to at the right end has a 20th-century steel glazed door and a further extension behind it. The house features gable end stacks, with the right end stack being significantly larger. Inside, upon entering, there is a passage formed on one side by a built-in 17th-century Chinese cherry-wood and lacquer-work five-panel screen. Other interior features are from the 18th century, including a cruck roof with four bays, two of which have been rebuilt, leaving three original cruck trusses.
