Description
41, 41A, and 42 Cliffe High Street is a pair of shops built in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of yellow brick and features stuccoed rusticated quoins, central Corinthian pilasters, window surrounds, and a deep part-moulded parapet. The coped parapet conceals the roof, which has brick stacks on both the left and right sides. The building has three storeys and a regular five-window front, with the central three windows slightly projecting and flanked by giant Corinthian pilasters, although the capitals are almost entirely eroded. There is a cill band below the second-floor windows, which is stuccoed only on the right side. The windows are glazing bar sashes set in wide moulded surrounds. On the ground floor, there are two shopfronts; the one on the left is a late 19th-century cast-iron design with arched window frames and decorated spandrels, featuring an inset central glazed door. The shopfront on the right is a 20th-century design with an inset glazed door to the left.
