Wellhouse 2 Metres South Of Bere Farmhouse

Wellhouse, located 2 metres south of Bere Farmhouse, is a well house and store dating from the 18th century, with an early 19th-century extension. The building features a timber-framed structure with brick infill, and some areas are constructed from flint with brick dressings. It has a hipped tile roof and is designed as a square block, with a later outshot on the south side. The northern half of the building is an open frame that supports a large wooden axle for a treadmill, or donkey wheel, positioned above the well head. This wheel has eight wooden spokes and a boarded rim, which serves as a footway. The enclosed section of the structure includes three boarded doors.
