Description

Brockwood Park House is a medium-sized country house built in 1769 for Richard Smith. An additional wing was constructed circa 1774, followed by 19th-century enlargement and early 20th-century alterations. The house is of brick, with colourwashed stone dressings, and roofs of mainly old plain tile, with some slate. It presents as a large, irregular mass.

The house is laid out on an east-west axis, with the north front featuring a projecting, two-bay 19th-century block with a stuccoed portico arcade. Behind this are sash windows with moulded architraves. Above the portico are three sash windows with similar surrounds, topped by a cornice and parapet. To the left (east) is a three-bay, three-storey 18th-century block, refaced in the 19th century with sash windows in matching surrounds and parapets. Further to the left are single-storey 19th-century and early 20th-century ranges. To the right end is a two-storey, two-bay late 18th-century wing, which was later refaced in the 19th century with window surrounds similar to the rest of the building, along with moulded long panels above the windows and a parapet.
