Description

The Church of St John the Evangelist is a parish church built in 1843 by G G Scott, designed in the 'second pointed' style. The exterior features walls made of squared knapped flint with Bath stone dressings, a plinth, stepped buttresses, a corbelled parapet, and hood-moulds above coupled windows that include quatrefoils and cusped lancets. The church has a steep slate roof and consists of a nave with five bays and aisles, a chancel with north and south chapels, a south porch, and a west tower with three stages. Inside, there is a carved Royal Coat of Arms from 1712 displayed on a screen at the west end, along with 18th-century wall monuments located in the tower. The church also features an ornamented octagonal font.
