Description

Springfield Cottage is a 17th-century cottage. It was re-clad at the beginning of the 19th century, and a rear wing was added in the late 19th century. The front of the cottage is stuccoed, with a plinth, chamfered window openings, and prominent hoodmoulds. The rear part has an exposed timber frame with brick infill, some painted brick walls, and some flint walls with brick dressings. One wing has upper walls of large boarding, with a bellcast effect above brackets. The thatched roof is half-hipped, with eaves raised above the upper windows on the front and eyebrow dormers at the rear. The symmetrical front elevation, facing south-east, has two storeys and two windows. The windows are casements with pointed Gothic heads. A porch with a Tudor arch and studded door is also present. The other elevations are irregular and feature vernacular details.
