Description
This building is a lodge located 500 meters north of Cowclose Farm, dating from the early 19th century and constructed for the Thornhill family of Stanton Hall. It is made of coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with stone slate roofs featuring stone coped gables, ridge ball finials, and a wide coved eaves band. The lodge is a single storey with attics and has an irregular plan.
On the south elevation, there is a projecting porch with a pediment, featuring an ovolo moulded, four-centred arched doorcase with incised spandrels, a studded wooden door, and an armorial shield incised on the lintel. Flanking the porch are arrow slit windows, a cross window, and a similar window above in the gable of the porch. Beyond the porch, to the east and west, are single light cavetto moulded, four-centred arched windows with incised spandrels and leaded lights. The east gable wall includes a central canted bay window with three similar cavetto moulded windows on each side. Above this, in the pedimented gable, is a similar single light window with a cross window above it. Inside, there is a large ovolo moulded fireplace in the sitting room. The building is generally in poor condition.
