Description

SK 26 SW PARISH OF STANTON IN THE PEAK ASHBOURNE ROAD (B5056) 4/42 (East Side) Lodge 500 metres north of Cowclose Farm II

Lodge. Early C19, built for Thornhill family of Stanton Hall. Coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins. Stone slate roofs with stone coped gables, ridge ball finials and wide coved eaves band. No stacks visible. Single storey, plus attics, irregular plan. South elevation has projecting pedimented porch with ovolo moulded, four-centred arched doorcase with incised spandrels, studded wooden door and armorial shield incised on lintel. Either side of porch has arrow slit, cross window and similar window above to south, in gable of porch. Beyond porch, to east and west, single light cavetto moulded, four-centred arched windows with incised spandrels and leaded lights. East gable wall has central canted bay window with three similar cavetto moulded windows to each side. Above, in pedimented gable, similar single light window with cross window over. Interior has large ovolo moulded fireplace to sitting room. Building generally in bad repair.
