SK 26 SW PARISH OF STANTON IN THE PEAK ASHBOURNE ROAD (B5056) 4/41 (East Side) Stoney Ley Lodge II
Lodge house. c1845, built for Thornhill family of Stanton Hall. Coursed, squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins. Stone slate roofs with moulded stone copings to gables with plain kneelers and ornate ridge finials. To south, large external stack with cross, arrow slit window near base and bracketed pot with flared top, pierced by elongated trefoils. Bold, coved eaves cornice. Tudor style, Cruciform plan. Two storeys. Original entrance to west with steps up to cavetto moulded, four-centred arched flush doorcase with hoodmould, now partly blocked and filled by C20 window. To either side of the bay, cross, arrow slit windows. Above door, a single light recessed and ovolo moulded window with hoodmould and gothic traceried lights. South elevation's advanced central bay has canted bay window with coved cornice and single light recessed and ovolo moulded windows with gothic traceried glazing to each side. To south, advanced external stack. Above the bay window, a 2-light recessed and ovolo moulded window with hoodmould and similar glazing to windows below. In gable above, a terracotta plaque, depicting a running stag, with large hoodmould. East elevation similar to west, north elevation similar to southern one.
