Description

Broadmeadow Cottage is a row of three cottages that were originally offices, built in the early 19th century with later alterations. The structure is made of coursed limestone and gritstone rubble, with roughcast on the end cottages, and features gritstone dressings and quoins at either end. The cottages have stone slate roofs with stone gable end and ridge stacks.

The building is two storeys high, with the end cottages each having two bays, while the central cottage has a single bay and an outbuilding to the west. The western cottage has an advanced bay to the east and is taller than the other two. In this advanced bay, there is a 2-light flush mullion window with fixed Gothic traceried metal lights and small casements. To the west, there is an open stone porch covering a plank door at the angle of the building, along with a large fixed pane window beyond. Above this porch, there is a central 3-light flush mullion window with fixed metal lights and small casements, and to the east, a single light flush window with Gothic traceried metal lights.

The middle cottage features a flush doorcase to the east, which is covered by a 20th-century glazed porch, and to the west, there is a large 2-light flush mullion window with Gothic traceried metal lights, with a similar single light window above. The outbuilding to the west has a plank door and a 19th-century window set in a blocked segmental archway, with an inserted late 19th-century window above the door.

The eastern cottage has a flush doorcase with a studded wooden door and an adjoining single light window with Gothic traceried metal lights to the east. There is a similar 2-light window to the west, and above, two similar single light windows with extra small casements. This building was formerly the offices for the Alport Mining Company.
