Description
The barn at Harthill Hall Farm dates back to the 16th century and has undergone significant restoration and additions in the 19th century, with further alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone and gritstone rubble, featuring gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with stone slate roofs. The barn is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with later, lower additions to the east.
On the north elevation, there is a wide, chamfered four-centred arched doorcase with a plank door. Flanking this doorcase are narrow, single light, chamfered windows with four-centred arched tops. To the west, there is a similar window with a segmental top, and beyond it, another four-centred arched doorcase situated under a flight of steps, with a similar doorcase beyond that. Above these features, there is a chamfered doorcase leading to a plank door at the top of the steps, along with a chamfered hayloft opening and a 2-light chamfered mullion window to the east.
Attached to the east is a lower 19th-century addition that includes a segmental arch on the east gable wall, and a 20th-century haybarn is attached to the north.
