Description

Bower Hall is a house dating from the late 17th century, with restorations and an addition made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features gritstone ashlar on the advanced central bay, with coursed squared gritstone elsewhere, large gritstone quoins, and gritstone dressings. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has stone coped gables, ridge ball finials, and a stone gable end stack located midway down the east gable.

The house has three bays, with the central bay being advanced and consisting of two storeys plus attics. There is a central moulded four-centred arched doorcase in the central bay. On either side of the door, there are single recessed and chamfered windows, which were formerly mullioned and now feature leaded lights. Above these, each side has 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows, along with similar windows that have hoodmoulds on the sides and front of the central bay. A plaque with a crown carved in relief is located above, and in the gable, there is a chamfered 2-light mullion window.

The west gable wall includes a 20th-century 4-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a prominent central mullion, and above it, there is a shallower 17th-century window with a hoodmould. Above this, there is another recessed and chamfered 2-light window. The interior features exposed ceiling beams. A large 20th-century addition has been made to the rear of the building.
