Description
Dorothy Vernon's Bridge is a narrow footbridge dating from the 17th century, located over the River Wye in Nether Haddon. It is constructed of gritstone and limestone rubble, featuring two segmental arches made of gritstone rubble voussoirs. Triangular-sectioned cutwaters are positioned between the arches on either side. Above the arches, there are low rubble parapets with rubble copings, and the walls thicken at either end. The bridge is named after the legend that Dorothy Vernon used it to escape and elope with her lover during her sister's wedding festivities.
