Description

The Village Cross, built in 1846, is a stone structure located on the north side of High Street in the parish of Stoney Middleton. It features a circular rubble plinth and an octagonal stone base with a tapering rectangular pier on top, which has been repaired at the upper section. The cross has short arms, with an inset panel on the west side that is inscribed with the year '1846' in large numbers. This cross was erected to commemorate the repeal of the Corn Laws.
