Description

Spa Cottage is a building that originated as two cottages, now combined into one. It dates back to the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is built from coursed limestone and gritstone rubble, featuring gritstone dressings and quoins. The roof is covered with concrete tiles and has a stone ridge. There are two stone ridge stacks and one gable end stack on the west side. The west gable is stone coped, with moulded kneelers and an eaves ball finial.

The building has three bays and is two storeys high, arranged in an L-shape with a projecting bay to the north. There is a flush central doorcase with a 19th-century gabled wooden porch that has decorative bargeboards above. The entrance features a studded wooden door. On the south side, there is a casement window with a flush surround and hexagonal leaded lights. To the north, there is a similar window in an 18th-century flush surround, which was formerly mullioned. Beyond this to the north is the projecting bay, which has a flush quoined doorcase and a 20th-century two-light flush mullion window on the south elevation. Above this, there is a similar 20th-century window. On the south side, there are two additional windows that match those below. This building is included for its group value only.
