Description
Brook Cottages, originally a warehouse, date from the early 19th century and were converted into two cottages in 1970. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble with gritstone dressings, quoins, and plain bands connecting the lintels. The roof is slate, with a stone coped gable to the east, featuring a moulded kneeler. Stone gable and ridge stacks are present. The building is two bays wide and two storeys high, with another two storeys above. The upper cottage’s entrance is from The Bank, and its south elevation was completely remodelled in the 20th century. This elevation now features two 20th-century casement windows in original, flush surrounds, with two similar windows above. The lower cottage’s south elevation has three 20th-century casements in flush surrounds, and a segmented headed archway to the west. The first floor of the lower cottage has three similar windows. The cottages are included on the list solely for their group value; a related property exists on Mill Street.
