Description
South Lodge to Hassop Hall is a lodge built in 1853 by Weightman, Hadfield and Goldie, designed in the Italianate style. It features coursed squared limestone with sandstone dressings and has a hipped and gabled overhanging roof made of Welsh slate. The building is two storeys high and has an L-plan shape with raised angle quoins.
The principal elevation consists of three bays and includes a continuous ground floor sill band. The left bay projects and has a bay window with a configuration of 1-3-1 lights, which is adorned with stepped surrounds and a moulded cornice. Above this, the raised ashlar stonework rises to a half dormer, and there is a keyed round-arched window with an impost band and apron.
In the angle of the L, there is a gabled porch positioned sideways, featuring a window with three round-arched lights. To the right of the porch, there is a 2-light mullion window with an ashlar surround that also rises to a half dormer similar to the one on the left. The gable end facing the road has an external chimney breast with quoins and scrolled brackets.
