Description

The gazebo, gates, and walls at the entrance to Hassop Hall were built in 1853 by Weightman, Hadfield and Goldie and are designed in the Jacobean style. The structure is made of coursed squared limestone, sandstone ashlar, and red brick. The gazebo has a square plan and features a basement with a single light window on the south side and an east-facing doorway with a chamfered surround and a panelled door. There is a band at the first floor level, which includes a 4-light recessed and chamfered mullioned and transomed window on each side, adorned with decorative leaded glazing. The corners of the gazebo are cut away and have attached square piers with moulded capitals and bases. On the east side, there is a sunk panel inscribed with "C 1853 L." The structure is topped with a moulded cornice and a decorative crenellated parapet featuring obelisk angle finials. To the north, there are a pair of panelled ashlar gatepiers topped with moulded pyramidal caps. The decorative wrought iron gates include an overthrow that incorporates shields. Flanking the drive to the west are two parallel walls; the southern wall is mostly made of brick, while the northern wall is constructed of limestone with a castellated top.
