Description
The gatepiers and attached archway to Hassop Park are likely from the early 17th century and 18th century, constructed from gritstone ashlar. The two tall piers stand approximately 12 feet high and are square in plan, featuring pilasters on each face or having corners that are nicked out. They are topped with a simple entablature, which continues upward to form a square pyramidal cap. To the left, there is an attached archway with a semi-circular arch made of stone voussoirs and a coped parapet. These gatepiers are believed to be associated with the early 17th century Hassop Hall park and may have been relocated to their current position when Hassop Hall was remodeled in the 19th century.
