Description
One Ash Grange Farmhouse Cottage and Barn is a building that combines a farmhouse, two cottages, and a barn under a continuous roof, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with gritstone dressings and quoins, featuring stone coped gables with plain kneelers on the west side, and a stone slate roof. The structure has two stone ridge stacks and one gable end stack on the east side.
The farmhouse has six bays, while the barn has two bays and stands two storeys tall, except for the central section which includes attics. The south elevation features a segmental arched doorcase with flush jambs, leading to a 19th-century panelled door that has four glazed panels. To the east, there is a three-light flush mullion window with glazing bar sashes, and to the west, a similar two-light window. Above these, to the east, is a shallower three-light mullion window with plain sashes, along with a 20th-century window inserted at the eaves.
On the west side, there is a two-light flush mullion window with a shallower window directly above it. To the east, there is a line of quoins and a 19th-century addition, which includes a glazed and panelled door in a flush surround, along with an adjoining window. A large glazing bar sash in a flush surround is located to the east, with two smaller similar sashes above.
To the west of the atticked section, due to a rise in the ground, there is a two-light flush mullion window with 20th-century casements, and beyond it, a 20th-century door with an adjoining window in a flush surround. Above, there are two two-light flush mullion windows with plain sashes or casements. Further to the west, the barn features stone steps leading up to a plank door at the east end, a large segmental archway to the west with a projecting keystone, and double plank doors. Windows in flush surrounds are located on either side, with a similar opening to the east. Above, there is a blocked hayloft opening with flush surrounds, along with another similar opening that has a fixed window to the west.
