Description
Shops with offices above, dating from the early to mid-19th century. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings, and has a Welsh slate roof. It occupies a corner site at the junction of Matlock Street and King Street.
The exterior presents a three-storey, six-window facade that wraps around the corner. Two plate-glass shop fronts occupy the ground floor of Matlock Street, with a central pier and a recessed doorway on the left side. The first floor features a sill band connecting the tall 6/6 sash windows, which have raised surrounds. The second floor has projecting sills and raised surrounds to the short 3/3 sash windows. A curved corner bay on the right retains a disused corner entrance beneath the windows. An eaves band and cornice run along the top of the facade. Gable copings are present, along with an ashlar end stack featuring a band on the left side. The roof sweeps around the corner bay.
The King Street facade has shop windows flanking an original doorway. This doorway contains a panelled and part-glazed 19th-century door with an overlight featuring radial glazing bars and a moulded stone cornice on consoles. The upper floor details mirror the facade on Matlock Street.
The interior of the building has not been inspected.
