Description
Derwent Cottage and Derwent House are a pair of houses built in the mid-18th century. They are constructed from coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and feature chamfered quoins. The roofs are made of stone slate, and there are stone gable end stacks with plain banding. The gables are stone coped and have moulded kneelers.
Each house has two storeys. Derwent Cottage, located to the east, has a slightly off-centre doorcase with rusticated jambs and a semi-circular pedimental head. The door is raised and fielded, with the top two panels glazed. On either side of the door are Venetian windows that have raised keystones and imposts, along with central glazing bar sashes and small pane side casements. Above, there are two similar windows.
To the west is Derwent House, which has an identical elevation to Derwent Cottage, except that its door is from the 20th century and the doorcase is painted.
