Description
The cottages at Church Cottage and Church View, along with the attached house to the east, date from the early 19th century and have been altered in the 20th century. They are constructed of gritstone rubble with gritstone dressings and quoins on the east side. The roofs are covered in stone slates, with a stone gable end stack to the east and one stone and one brick ridge stack.
Originally built as two-storied, single-bay cottages, Church View, on the west side, features a 20th-century glazed door within a raised doorcase. It has a 30-pane glazing bar sash window within a raised surround, and a similar window above. Church Cottage, to the east, has a similar elevation, but the sashes have been replaced in the 20th century with 16-pane sashes.
The attached house to the east was originally a pair of cottages, now combined into one dwelling. It has two adjoining doorcases centrally positioned; the eastern doorcase has been blocked and cut flush with the stonework, while the western one contains a panelled door. To either side of the doorcases are plain sash windows within raised surrounds. Above, there are two 30-pane glazing bar sashes in raised surrounds. The building is included on the list solely for its group value.
