Description
The terrace, steps, and walls located to the southeast of Ashford Hall date from the mid-19th century. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble and ashlar gritstone. The terrace is five feet high and runs the full width of the hall, bordered by a limestone rubble wall topped with flat gritstone copings. At each end of the terrace, there is a flight of eight steps leading down to a formal parte-terre. Flanking the steps are low walls in an Elizabethan style, featuring pierced stone circles and semi-circular arcades set between square piers, which are topped with ball finials. This structure is included in the listing for its group value.
