Description
PARISH OF BEELEY SCHOOL LANE SK 26 NE 5/45 (South Side) Norman House, Attached 12.7.67 Cottage and Barn GV II House, cottage and barn. C17 and C19. Coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins. Stone slate roofs with stone gable and ridge stacks and one blue brick stack. Coped gables and moulded kneelers to C17 part, which also has first and second floor bands. One and a half and three storeys. North elevation. Three storey gabled part of two bays. The ground floor has two 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows. Two similar windows above and two similar above again, not symmetrically placed. Similar blind single light window in the gable. Hoodmoulds to the second floor windows, those below have continuous bands. Group of stone slabs in front of one of the ground floor windows, probably to keep animals from the window. Lower wing to the east set back, but with a lean-to outshut in the angle. The cottage has a doorway with ashlar jambs and lintel, and half glazed door. To the left a glazing bar sash in ashlar surround. Similar but smaller window to right beneath the eaves. Two gabled half dormers above with glazing bar sashes. Drystone wall of squared blocks enclosing the front garden. To the east a lower range has a doorway with massive quoins and lintel and studded plank door. To the right a small square opening, low down, with plank shutter. Barn to east projects and has coped gables with moulded kneelers. C19 cart entrance with stone lintel. Garden elevation has to gabled bay a 4-light recessed and chamfered mullion window to ground floor, with similar 3-light above and above again. C19 wing to west has a gabled dormer with segmental pointed arched window. Interior: Stone winder stair has short balustrade with large splat balusters. Oak doors.
