Description

Conksbury Hall is a house dating from the early 18th century, with an earlier core and a 19th-century addition that was refashioned around 1970. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone, with a limestone rubble addition, gritstone dressings, and chamfered quoins. The roof is made of stone slate and features stone gable end stacks, along with moulded stone coped gables and moulded kneelers. The building has a plinth, continuous plain bands between storeys, and a moulded eaves cornice with raised corners over the quoins.

The house is two storeys high, plus attics, with four bays and a two-bay addition. The entrance features a moulded doorcase with fluted jambs, a bracketed, moulded stone segmental pediment, and a 20th-century panelled door. On the south side, there are two 2-light flush mullion windows with a raised fillet around the edges of the surrounds, and a similar window is located to the north of the doorcase. Above these, there are four similar windows, while the attic storey is blank.

To the north, there is a recessed addition with a moulded doorcase and a 20th-century panelled door. A 20th-century 3-light flush mullion window with a raised fillet is present on the south side, with a similar window above and a 2-light window to the north. All the windows are 20th-century casements. The east gable wall features a 2-light attic window with a dripmould. The rear elevation has an advanced bay for the staircase, which includes a full-height 2-light mullion and double transomed stair window. Inside, there is a large bracketed stone fireplace in the central room, a moulded fireplace in the southern room, and a turned baluster staircase with urn finials.
