Description
This is a terrace of four cottages built in the early 19th century, located 40 metres west of The Square House in the parish of Middleton and Smerrill. The cottages are constructed from coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings, featuring two ridge stacks and a stone slate roof. They are two storeys high and have a regular window pattern, with 2-light chamfer mullioned openings and single-light openings, all set within stone surrounds that include hood moulds and stops. The windows generally have four-pane casements. The stone-framed doorways, one of which is now blocked and converted into a window, also feature hood moulds and stops, and have 20th-century half-glazed doors. The front gardens are enclosed by a low rubble limestone boundary wall with half round gritstone copings, which includes four gateways and a stone fountain with a pointed arched head for water supply.
