Description
These farm buildings, located approximately 100 yards south of Westnewton House, date from the early 19th century. They are constructed of random rubble with dressed stone quoins and surrounds, topped with pantiled roofs. The layout consists of four ranges surrounding a farmyard, which is now covered by a 20th-century roof.
On the south side, there are single-storey byres that have been converted into stores, featuring three boarded doors and small square cast-iron ventilation grilles on the outside wall. The east side includes a two-storey former threshing barn on the right, with granaries to the left that project to the rear; this barn was originally equipped with a water-driven thresher.
The north range serves as a double-sided shelter shed supported by cast-iron columns. The west range, which used to be hen houses, is now used for storage and has three boarded doors. All openings in the buildings feature alternating-block surrounds, and the roofs are gabled with flat copings.
