Description
Westnewton Bridge is a bridge built in the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of random rubble with ashlar dressings, although some repairs have been made using concrete.
The bridge features seven arches, with triangular cutwaters situated between the middle three arches. It has a very broad segmental arch that is vaulted in ashlar, flanked by smaller round-headed arches. At each end of the bridge, there are two additional, much lower flood arches that are now mostly blocked by earth and rubble.
The deep voussoirs are framed by arch bands. The bridge has a plain parapet with concrete coping, which widens out beyond the bridge to form approach walls that end in square piers topped with shallow stone pyramidal caps.
