Description
Kirknewton House is a house dating from the 1830s and 1840s. It is built with painted roughcast render, with ashlar stone detailing at the corners, base, and window surrounds. The roof is covered in Welsh slate.
The house is two storeys high and has a main section of three bays by two bays, with a lower service wing to the rear. A four-panelled door is centrally located, with a decorative transom window above, set within a Tuscan-style door surround featuring carved details and a moulded cornice. Ground floor windows are two-pane sashes, while those on the first floor are twelve-pane sashes, all set within alternating block surrounds. Overhanging eaves are supported by paired stone brackets. The roof is shaped like a "U" and has four chimney stacks along the ridge.
The side elevations feature ground floor square bay windows with tripartite sashes and moulded cornices, alongside other twelve-pane sashes. The lower, four-bay service wing at the rear has twentieth-century twelve-pane sashes and matching surrounds.
Inside, the staircase has stick balusters, turned newel posts, and a wreathed handrail.
