Description
The Dales is a house dating from the late 18th century, located on Maltongate in Thornton Dale. The front is made of squared sandstone, featuring painted chamfered quoins on the left side, while the sides and rear are constructed from coursed sandstone rubble. The roof is covered with pantiles and has a rebuilt brick chimney stack.
The building has a single cell direct-entry plan that is one and a half rooms deep, with a two-storey front that has two windows. To the right, there is a 20th-century six-panel door with an overlight, and to the left, there is a four-pane sash window. On the first floor, there are two four-pane sash windows. All windows have painted stone sills and heavy painted lintels above them. The eaves feature a cavetto moulded course, and there is a chimney stack at the left end of the building.
