Description
The war memorial located to the south of the Church of St Stephen is a tribute to those who served in World War I, created in 1919 or later. It is made of sandstone and features a design resembling a Saxon cross set on a tall sloped base. The memorial includes cable-moulded borders and interlace panels, with high-relief figures of St George and a recording angel on the shaft. The arms of the cross are adorned with bosses among the interlace. Inscribed on the lower part of the shaft is the phrase: "Remember the love of them who came not home from the war." Below this inscription, there is a copper plate listing the names of those who died in World War II, while the names of World War I dead are inscribed on the base.
