Description
This is a flood bridge located approximately 35 metres south-west of the Village Hall in Sinnington, built around 1769 and partly rebuilt in 1794, with restoration work completed in 1966. The bridge is made of roughly-dressed sandstone and features a single span with a segmental arch that is about 0.7 metres high at the center, situated on a raised causeway. It spans a dry ditch and was originally constructed to allow packhorses to cross floodwater from the nearby River Seven. Initially, it was a hump-backed packhorse bridge with a segmental arch. Over time, as the original flood channel silted up, large stones were spread over the causeway to raise the approaches and lessen the slope of the hump. Portions of the original parapets remain from this period.
