Description
Mariners' Cottage and Olsen Cottage are a pair of houses from the mid to late 18th century located in Fylingdales, Robin Hood's Bay. They are constructed from coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone and feature pantiled roofs. Each house has two storeys and an attic, with one wide bay. The doors are paired in the center: No 5 has a 20th-century door, while No 6 possibly has a Victorian door, both of which are half-glazed and sit under bracketed flat hoods that are not original.
No 5 includes a mid-19th century sash window with a wide margin, projecting cill, and wood architrave on each floor. No 6 features a 3-light fixed window with a 5-pane transom section, likely from the early 20th century, to the left of the door, and a replaced 16-pane sash window with wood architrave and projecting cill above. The ground-floor windows have extended lintels with wall flush keystones, which are also present above the doors. No 5 has a raking half-dormer with a sash window similar to the first-floor window, while No 6 has a 20th-century flat-headed dormer with modern casements.
