Description

This is a mid-19th century row of dwellings, located on the east side of High Street, Newnham. Originally likely four dwellings, the building is now known as Mariners Cottage, The Wee House, and Tremains. It is constructed of brick and extends to two storeys and an attic, with a 2+1+1 window arrangement. The windows in Tremains and Mariners Cottage are sash windows with glazing bars; The Wee House has sash windows without glazing bars. There are two small 19th-century dormers on Tremains, and one new dormer with metal casements on each of the other dwellings. A 6-panel door is incorporated into a 15-panel 19th-century shop front on the left side. Further doors are located to the left of the window ranges in each of the cottages: Tremains has a 6-panel flush door, The Wee House has a new glazed door, and Mariners Cottage has a 6-panel door including four glazed panels. The two outer units of the row remain largely unaltered. The building contributes to the group value of the street.
