Description

Birkby Cottage is a house that is part of a terrace but is a separate build, likely dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed from finely-cut vertically-tooled sandstone, with some rough herringbone-tooled blocks in the lower courses. The roof is covered with pantiles. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring two windows. On the right side, there is a six-panel door that is sheltered by a gabled hood supported by long brackets. The original sash windows have been replaced, and there is a blocked fire window on the left side of the first floor. The eaves are coved, and the stone gable copings are complemented by large moulded kneelers. A three-light dormer window with plain casements is present in the attic.
