Description
Sherwood is a house located on the west side of The Square in Robin Hood's Bay, dating from the early 18th century with some alterations. It is constructed from coursed sandstone of near-ashlar quality and features a pantiled roof with a stone ridge, copings, kneelers, and a stack. The building has two storeys and an attic, with three irregular bays.
In the two right bays, there is a door with three beaded panels and a radial fanlight, set within a doorcase that has pilasters and an archivolt. The right side has 16-pane sash windows on both floors, while the left side has two 12-pane sashes on each floor, all framed in wooden architraves. There are traces of original shorter, wider windows, and the current ones have been lengthened and narrowed, likely in the early 19th century. A large 20th-century dormer is positioned on the eaves, and there is a phoenix firemark at the top centre of the building.
