Description

A row of cottages with outbuildings, dating from the late 18th century, situated on Ashfield Road, Castleton. The buildings are constructed of coursed, herringbone-tooled sandstone, with a plinth. The roof is pantiled, with a stone ridge, copings, kneelers, and stacks. It is possible the cottages were originally one dwelling. The row is two storeys high with three bays. There are three boarded doors, the two on the right having overlights. Sash windows are present, some with glazing bars. The roof has a fairly high pitch with block kneelers and corniced end chimneys. A wall extends to the left, connecting the cottages to two small pent outhouses built of similar materials, with an owl hole in the north end wall. No. 6 serves as the Registrar's Office.
