Description

The signpost on Gorley Green is a road signpost dating from the early 20th century. It is made of cast iron and features a slender, tapered, and fluted post designed to resemble a Doric column, topped with a finial. The sign has three arms, each with ogee-pointed ends, inscribed in upper case letters with serifs indicating directions: "To Ringwood," "To Fordingbridge," "To Furze Hill," and "To Cuckoo Hill," with the last two directions on a single arm. This signpost is a notable example of a county council signpost with an unusual design.
