Description
Venard's House is a Grade II* listed house located in North Gorley, dating from the late 17th century and altered in the 18th century. It is constructed of brick with an old plain tile roof and features two storeys with a five by three bay layout. The front of the house has a slightly projecting central bay that includes a glazed door set within a plain stone architrave, which is supported by stone carved brackets and topped with a stone pediment. Above the door, there is a 12-pane sash window framed by stone Doric pilasters, resting on a moulded stone cill and supporting a stone entablature, which is surmounted by a brick cornice and a semi-circular moulded brick pediment. The other bays contain 12-pane sash windows beneath rubbed arches. A moulded string course runs along the first floor, interrupted by the central projection, and there are moulded brick eaves. The roof is hipped, featuring a large rectangular chimney on the right-hand side with arched panels, projecting springer bricks, and an offset head. The right-hand front section has three bays with similar sash windows, the central first-floor window set in a stone architrave and cill on stone brackets. The roof has two hip ends with a central valley between them. The interior retains some 17th-century features.
