Description

Arnewood Court is a country house dating from the mid-19th century, with alterations and extensions around 1876 for ATT Peterson. It is constructed of stuccoed brick, with additions of mass concrete built in ‘lifts’ and all painted, and has slate roofs. The house is arranged around a plan consisting of a two-storey, five-bay double-span block closest to the road, a lower three-storey, three-bay block, a two-bay wing set behind, and a four-storey tower at the opposite end.

The front elevation features a tower at the right-hand end. To the left, a set-back range includes a square-plan, flat-roofed entrance in the right-hand bay. A first-floor band runs across the facade. The windows are mostly cross-windows, with four-pane sashes in the main block. The smaller range has a low-pitched, hipped roof with stacks at each end of the ridge. The larger block has a steep-pitched roof with a large stack at the right-hand end. The tower is square in plan, with a pair of arched openings on the top stage and a heavy cornice below a low parapet.
