Description
The Keepings Farmhouse dates to the 16th and early 17th centuries, with later additions and alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of brick with tilehung gables and has an old plain tile roof. The original farmhouse was a 3-bay structure with a smoke bay, with a further bay added to the right side of the smoke bay and later rebuilt as a crosswing, now forming the front of the house. One bay is set back on the rear side. The front facade, featuring two bays, has a central 6-panel door within a doorcase. Three-light casement windows flank the door, and a gabled dormer with a three-light window sits above. The right side of the building shows the projecting crosswing, which is gabled and tilehung with two-light casement windows on both floors. A narrow stack bay adjoins this, featuring a small window. To the left is a gabled bay with a tilehung gable and three-light casements on each floor, with two tieplates positioned one above the other on either side of this bay. The left-hand bay also has a small window and large French windows towards the end. The roof is half-hipped to the left and has a slightly higher ridge to the crosswing. A substantial stack, built over the smoke bay, has a cruciform base with four hexagonal shafts, each with moulded heads arranged in a cross shape.
