Description
Cherrytree Cottage is a house dating from around the early 19th century. It is characterised by exposed cob walls and a thatched roof with half-hipped ends. A brick axial stack provides ventilation and serves back-to-back fireplaces. The building follows a two-room plan, with the room on the right being larger. Later 19th-century and 20th-century outshuts have been added behind the original rooms.
The front of the house has two windows on the southwest side, with attic windows set under eyebrow eaves. The windows are casements with glazing bars, with smaller panes on the ground floor and leaded panes in the attic window. Plank doors are located on either side of the front. Casements are also present in the gable ends, with the ones on the southeast side being 20th century additions. The rear (northeast) has a later 19th-century brick outshut on the right and a 20th-century roughcast outshut on the left.
Inside, the room on the southeast side features an unchamfered axial beam, exposed joists, and a large brick fireplace with a cambered, chamfered bressumer. The room on the northwest side has an unchamfered axial beam and a brick fireplace with an unchamfered timber bressumer. The attic chambers are ceiled, and the roof is a simple principal-rafter structure.
